With Understanding Comes Calm, LLC provides comprehensive consultation, education and advocacy training for PARENTS of twice exceptional (gifted with learning differences) children, EDUCATORS, CLINICIANS and 2e adults. Julie Skolnick, Founder, utilizes a unique process for parents to gain a deeper understanding of their twice exceptional children's strengths and struggles. She guides parents in learning about their own parenting patterns and family dynamics and teaches strategies to shift from REACTING to RESPONDING to their children. Julie serves as "quarterback" for parents to learn how to increase happiness and calm in the home, how to more effectively communicate and collaborate with school, extended family and others to bring out the best and raise self-confidence in their 2e children. For EDUCATORS, Julie provides training on what it means to be twice exceptional and best practices in the classroom for engagement, addressing underachievement and challenging behaviors, and creating connections. Julie mentors TWICE EXCEPTIONAL ADULTS, helping them understand lifelong challenges and helping them identify strengths and passions in order to find fulfillment personally and professionally. CLINICIANS look to Julie to help them understand complex client profiles and assist in communication with parents.
FlexSchool is a unique learning network for gifted and twice exceptional (2e) middle and high school students. At this time two campuses serve the Tristate area, one in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey and another in Bronxville, New York.
FlexSchool embraces students for who and where they are, then supports them as they learn to thrive. Small, ability and discussion based classes taught by subject experts ensure meaningful conversations and the opportunity to ask high-level questions. The faculty, trained and supported by learning specialists and mental health professionals, focuses on critical thinking in all areas of learning.
Recognizing that many students live outside of our region, FlexSchool is designed to welcome students virtually into our campus classrooms through our Cloud Classroom program. If private instruction or support is needed, students join their teacher via video conferencing for private classes.
